EN 12195-2 Europe Ratchet Strap

EN 12195-2-compliant web lashing made from synthetic fibers is a commonly used device for securing cargo. This type of lashing, in accordance with the EN 12195-2 standard, provides a reliable means of restraining loads. Leveraging the traction achieved through manual tensioning devices, it can be applied in situations involving friction lashings or direct lashings. Friction lashings work by increasing friction to secure the load, while direct lashings maintain the load by enhancing friction forces.

To calculate lashings, specific parameters for web lashing are provided in accordance with the EN 12195-2 standard, as required by the formulas in the EN 12195-1 standard. It's crucial to note that the use of web lashings not approved by this standard is not permitted for lashings calculated based on the EN 12195-1 standard. Compliance with these standards is essential for meeting cargo securing requirements during roadside technical inspections, as outlined in Directive 2014/47/EU concerning the technical roadside inspection of commercial vehicles circulating in the European Union.

As of now, the current version of EN 12195-2 dates back to 2004.

Key Features of Web Lashing:

Dual Branch Configuration: Web lashings typically consist of two branches, with a manual ratchet on the shorter branch. The end of the strapping can feature different types of hooks or loops to securely fasten it within or above the lashing points on the vehicle or cargo.

Manual Ratchet Operation: The ratchet should always be manually operated without the need for levers or other mechanical devices. It should remain locked during transportation to ensure the stability of the load.

Built-in Tension Indicator: Some lashings come equipped with built-in tension indicators, allowing for an immediate visual check of the tension achieved after the ratchet is engaged.
